Experimental Musical Notation

A musical notation inspired by Pink Floyd's groundbreaking Dark Side of the Moon album, Newton's Prism theory & Kandinsky's work at the Bauhaus.

The starting point of the project was Newton's Prism, which appears in the album's cover art. Newton's theory argues that the 7 major musical notes each have a correlated color. With this in mind, I decided to go further by relating each color to a specific geometrical shape, as Kandinsky's proposed in his Forms and Colors work. Using this relationship of notes, colors and shapes, I was able to rework bits of the original musical scores using this inventive musical notation.

Each of the three posters created are based on an important song from the album, being each poster also related to a different moment of the day, as the Dark Side of the Moon narrative suggests
